Backpacks, carry-ons, satchels, fanny packs; what do all these things have in common? They're bags, idiot. You didn't know that. They hold shit. Bigger bags hold more shit than smaller bags. That's simple physics. When it comes to Everyday Carry, bags can be essential, depending on how much you want to take with you.
Many people use bags. Students and professionals alike takes bags with them because they have stuff, and they need that stuff. So even if you are not a student or a professional, you won't look out of place if you're walking down the street with a bag. I believe that the best casual but stylish bag is a simple satchel. Sure, people will call it a man purse, but they're small and have a low profile.
Always remember, if you have a backpack, one-strap that thing. Two-strapping is for losers. This is about all I have to say about bags for now. Bags hold your EDC well.

EDC Knives
Sometime in the past, knives entered the pantheon of "Must Useful Items." It is strange to think about at first. The only thing knives do is cut things. How often do you cut things in your day-to-day life? Maybe, like, once a week. Some have jobs where they have to slice and dice regularly. People who open packages, for instance. Chefs. WWI trench combatants.
So why are so many Everyday Carrys rounded out with a good ole' knife? The reason, I think, is that the instant you need a knife and don't have one, you feel like an idiot. Or you die. You're car goes off a cliff, probably because you were drunk and subconsciously wanted to kill yourself; it hits the water and you realize there actually are things in this world worth living for. You go for the buckle, but it's stuck. Water rises to hip level and you panic. You curse yourself for not bringing a knife. Then you die, leaving your family to deal with your huge debt. That is why you should carry a blade.
But what kind of blade is best? We will get to that in a new post.

Every Day Carry
People are always carrying things. Like, they carry things... every day. Knives, watches, wallets, pens, notebooks, guns, cigarettes, small animals, phones, the list goes on and on. People put these things in their pockets. Or, sometimes, they put things in their bags. A lot of individuals like to think a little too much about what they carry and what they want to carry. These individuals range in personality from overly obsessed with preparedness to overly obsessed with minimalism. There is an elegance in the middle ground. That is what the philosophy of Everyday Carry is all about. How can one be prepared for everything without carrying everything? What are the only tools one needs, and what are the purest or best versions of those tools? Should a wallet hold or should a wallet simply be? Is watch fashion a thing? Functionality over form over frugality.
